Family member with addiction problems: How to cope

This article starts off by asking the question - Where Are Your Feet?

One of my favorite questions to ask myself when I am feeling out of control or pulled in a million different directions with just too many things on my “to do” list is: “Where are my feet?”

I love the question of “where are my feet?” What a neat and strange question!

The author of this blog post, Maggie Harmon, asks this question to the family members of addicted loved ones when they find themselves caught in the whirlwind of anxiety about their loved ones’ addictions. It can be exhausting to constantly think, worry, plan, and imagine all of the problems, issues, and ideas we have about a loved one’s addiction.

Bringing ourselves back into the present moment and recognizing what we have, and what we don’t have, control over are incredibly helpful when we find ourselves caught up in an anxiety whirlwind. So, where are your feet? And, where do you want your feet to go?
