Helping Families towards Recovery

You can help your loved one struggling with addiction.
We can show you how!

Welcome, Family & Friends!

If you’re worried about a loved one’s use of alcohol or other drugs, you’re not alone—and you’re in the right place.

At Helping Families Help, “family and friends” means anyone who is struggling with a loved one’s substance use or wishes to support their loved one in recovery. Whether you are a parent, a spouse, a friend or a sibling…..if you care about someone who is using alcohol or drugs in a way that is concerning, this site is for you!

We’re here to help you do two essential things:

  • Learn about CRAFT, an evidence-based method for motivating your loved one towards recovery while taking care of yourself in the process.

  • Find CRAFT-based resources and supports so you can learn and practice these skills and perspectives over time.

Let’s break it down a little more…

• Learn About CRAFT: A Proven Way to Help Someone Get into Treatment

CRAFT (Community Reinforcement and Family Training) is an evidence-based approach for families that:

  • Helps you motivate your loved one to seek treatment—even if they’re not ready

  • Improves your relationship with your loved one—even in times of conflict

  • Equips you to take care of yourself—even in the face of uncertainty

Research shows that nearly 7 out of 10 families using CRAFT are able to help their loved one start treatment over the space of a year. Even when a loved one isn’t ready to change, you can start feeling better, more hopeful, and more intentional about your responses.
